BPI Training and Certification
Our firm trains professionals in the building analysis and improvement industry to national standards of excellence through the Building Performance Workshop. Every Building Performance Workshop holistic training program is designed to help analysts, contractors, and inspectors gain the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the current wave of high performance homes and weatherization. Trainees are taught to understand the inner workings of building science and diagnostic tools, and are prepared to challenge written and field tests to be certified by Building Performance Institute (BPI) as a Building Analyst (BA) and (for advanced participants) an Envelope Professional (EP). Building Performance Workshops can also be tailored to fit any need your organization may have, including one-day, three-day, or extended sessions.
The Building Performance Workshop is a chance to learn the trade from full-time practitioners. Participants study with Green Dream Group's ever-energetic lead energy auditor, Corbett Lunsford. Corbett is an experienced trainer, presenter, and energy auditor, and is always working to forge deeper connections within the industry's community of professionals; he hosts the Building Performance Podcast and the Chicago-area Building Performance Meetup, and serves as the Executive Director of the IL Association of Energy Raters and Home Performance Professionals, as well as the Provider Education Partner for USGBC-Illinois.

Scheduled trainings below are 3 or 6 days long, in Thursday-through-Saturday segments. There are site visits during each week of the training, for hands-on application of the principles and standards our participants work to master. Books included with the training may include the Building Performance Workshop Manual, the Ventilation and Insulation Guides from Building Science Press, and Residential Energy. All materials and the BA exam are included in the fee, which is $1575 for 6-day courses, or $825 for 3-day courses (HERS Raters Only). The field exam required for BPI certification is scheduled and paid ($350) after the training is complete and the written exam is passed.
All trainings take place at the Building Performance Workshop at our offices in Chicago.
Upcoming Trainings:
6 Days: March 18-20 and 25-27, 2010
3 Days (HERS Raters Only): April 29-May 1, 2010
